Retail Store General Manager

Wisteria, a growing and dynamic multichannel merchant of antiques and decorative items for the home and garden, is searching for an energetic, professional, and dedicated person to become the General Manager for our store. This position encompasses all aspects of retail including developing and achieving sales pans, inventory management, creating merchandising floor plans to maximize sales per square foot, setting marketing goals, sales analysis, and staff management and development.

The ideal candidate will have strong retail background with excellent time-management, organizational, and communication skills in order to effectively interface with other departments throughout the company. This candidate needs to be a high energy individual with a strong sales presence and the ability to develop and train a strong team. This position reports to the Director of Retail. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Manage Store staff (hiring, scheduling, zone assignments, discipline, etc.)
  • Open and/or close the Outlet
  • Maintain the daily records, register close-outs, etc.
  • Handle customer service on the floor
  • Ensure proper signage is on the floor for the duration of a promotion
  • Provide a front-line perspective on:
    • Products that are creating buzz amongst customers
    • Frequently requested items not offered through the catalog
    • Items that are requested, but not in the store
  • Versed in all Wisteria systems: Data Base and POS.
  • Manage trade discounts
  • Forward customer contact lists to Marketing
  • Order supplies as needed
  • Hire Sales Associates, as needed
  • Development and achievement of sales plans based on model stock, inventory turns, rates of sale, aged inventory, seasonality, etc.
  • Accurate inventory management.

Critical skills include:
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong organizational skills, with attention to detail and dates
  • Experienced user of all Microsoft applications such as Excel, Outlook, and Word
  • Ability to think creatively and juggle many tasks and personalities at once
  • Self-motivated and decisive
  • Detail oriented with creative problem solving skills
  • Ability to execute under accelerated timeframes
  • Ability to quickly adapt to change in priorities
  • Strategic and independent thinking, planning, and follow-up skills
  • College degree required
  • 5 to 10 years experience in store management
